What is Microblading?
Microblading is also referred as Eyebrow Embroidery, Semi-Permanent Hair Strokes, 3D Brows, Feather Strokes and Mico-Strokes.
This is a process of delicately infusing pigment into the skin with a sterile micro needle to simulate the appearance of natural hair. Microblading strokes are meant to be a subtle, natural enhancement to create fuller more beautiful brows.
How long does Microblading last?
Microblading is considered semi-permanent. Unlike actual tattooing which penetrates seven to eight layers into the epidermis and is permanent, microblading only penetrates 2 layers into the dermis and pigments are designed to fade over time. Factors such as skin type, lifestyle, age, metabolism, medications, and pigment color affect the longevity.
The sun can also affect the rate at which these pigments are broke down. To take care of your brows follow the aftercare instructions and touch-up your brows as needed. Depending upon all these factors, your microbladed brows can last from 1 to 3 years with a yearly touch-up.
Is Microblading painful?
Microblading can be uncomfortable depending on variables, but not painful. However, there is an optional topical anesthetic applied to keep this to a minimum.
While tattooing, waxing and eyebrow threading may be considered painful to some, microblading is a much more comfortable service. It is described as 'scratching' or 'etching' the pigment into the skin rather than puncturing or cutting.
How long does this Microblading service last?
The initial Microblading appointment takes about 2 hours. During this session, the micro-artist will shape, style and map out the brows for client approval. This can take up to an hour. The topical anesthetic is then applied (optional) and takes about 20 minutes to take affect. And the actual Microblading takes from 30 - 45 minutes.
What is the Microblading healing process like?
Your new microbladed eyebrows will go through several several phases during the healing process none of which require you to hide, cover your brows or not leave the house. The first and second day your brows may appear sharper, darker and bolder. You may also experience some redness or swelling around the treated area. This typically disappears within 48 hours. The color of the pigment will soften gradually. Around days 3 - 5 you may notice some flaking or very light, minimal scabbing (miniscule black dots). Do not pick or scratch as this can result in pigment loss.
Your microbladed eyebrows will be the lightest tones during days 5-12. Do not be alarmed if it seems as if the pigment disappeared. The color is absorbed in the second layer of the skin and later pushes back to the upper layer.
At 4-5 weeks your brows will be fully healed. Whatever pigment does not return will be addressed at your touch up appointment.
Once the healing is completed, you will love your new, natural looking eyebrows!
If its not permanent, how quickly will it fade?
On average, Microblading tends to fade within 12-14 months. There are a few factors that can sometimes alter the length of time such as an individual’s skin care routine, regular exposure to the sun and the color pigmentation of the Microblading. Skin type can be a varying factor as well – someone with oilier skin tends to fade quicker than someone with drier skin.
